In our Gospel, Matt 11:2-10, we see John the Baptist, the one who was to prepare the way for Jesus, asking if Jesus was the Christ.  He sends his disciples because he is in prison to ask a question:

Now when John heard in prison about the deeds of the Christ, he sent word by his disciples and said to him, “Are you the one who is to come, or shall we look for another?”
