Advent is a season of expectation. We are looking expectantly for the the Christ.
In life, sometimes our expectations aren’t met, because what God is actually doing isn’t exactly what we want. We’ve all had disappointments. Some disappointments are small – “man, the turkey didn’t turn out as moist as I wanted.”
Sometimes, however, disappointments are huge. They can be lifechanging. Disappointments in love, a career, Kids, or with friends. Can you hold fast to Joy in the midst of the unexpected? Can we trust him when things are different, perhaps harder, than planned. Can you find His love in the midst of disappointment, perhaps even despair.
We enter our Gospel reading story and John the Baptist, precursor of Jesus.
