Today we are looking at a parable of a Rich Man and Lazarath.  Unlike other parables, Jesus names the people, like Lazarus and Abraham, and so it gives a little bit of the feel of a real story, like Ebenezer Scrooge.  But, like Dickens story, this is merely a parabolic warning to people while you are alive, not a discourse on what happens when you die.

You can rest assured that this is a parable.  I want you to resist the urge to see this parable as one that gives us a glimpse into the afterlife.  Instead this gives us a reality check on how to live this life.
