Jesus told a parable in our Gospel today that was motivated from something he observed.  He was at a party and when he looked around he noticed a theme: Rich, powerful, and people of position.  In Luke 14 it says:

he went to dine at the house of a ruler of the Pharisees, they were watching him carefully.

Not the greatest motivation for being invited to a party, to be watch and really trapped in a verbal argument.  So Jesus does what he often did in these situations, he told a parable:
