God’s Big Story – Every Sunday Morning 10:00 – 10:50am
(ages 4 years to 5th grade)
God’s Big Story is a Sunday School curriculum that invites children into the narrative arc of Scripture through play. Rooted in the stories of the Bible, God’s Big Story weaves together worship through liturgy, song, Scripture memory, catechesis, and prayer. Through these practices, children learn about God’s love for them and how that love shapes a life formed in Christ.

“It has been such a joy teaching children about God’s redemptive story on Sunday mornings. The play based story narrations and wondering questions have reminded me of how children are drawn to the sacred. Children don’t need prescriptive nuggets of truth to understand the character of God, but simply need space to cultivate curiosity and respond to God’s love for them and the rest of creation. I am reminded of how adults (myself included) sometimes forget that children bear the full image of God and flourish most when adults respect their humanity. Overall, I am so grateful for the privilege to participate in the formation of the children at Mariners’ Church of Detroit.”

“I’ve always believed that giving back to others is a form of worship to God. As a nursery worker, to give a tired parent a brief window to sit & learn without distraction gives them a mental & physical break that at my age I no longer need. I provide a safe, fun, and loving experience for the child that just might create a decision to follow Christ in their future.”

Church School during the 11:00 service
(each 3rd Sunday of the month)
During the 11:00 service, a Church Sunday School class is being held on the third Sunday of each month. The Bible lessons are geared for children ages three to six years of age. Our younger children spend their time in Church School hearing a Bible story and doing an age appropriate hands on activity which is meant to help them retell the story. This year’s stories are from the Old Testament.
“It is our goal to strengthen the values children learn at home and to expand on them through the teaching of the Church. The strong religious foundation we establish in our children will strengthen every aspect of their lives and, in turn, the life of Mariners. We’d love to have you join us!”
