Learning - Adults
One strength of the Anglican Tradition is that it encourages a healthy life of the mind. God gave us brains and we are responsible to use them. "Reason" is one of the three basic cornerstones of our Faith (along with Tradition, and the uptmost, Holy Scripture); and we strongly concur with John Wesley, in that we are at great risk, "if we "despise or lightly esteem reason, knowledge or human learning."
At Mariners' Church of Detroit there is a strong emphasis on growing in our knowledge and love of God. Every person has the opportunity to undergo a personalized path of growth and development as a disciple of our Lord Jesus.
The Great Commandment
"'Thou shalt love the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul and all your mind,' We note that the Great Commandment includes loving God "with all your mind." We are not anti-intellectual, on the contrary, we believe that right reason is on the side of right thinking about God.
