Love

Loving God and Loving others, that's a good way to summarize what we're about! Loving God means worshipping Him with reverence and awe, obeying Him as if God were the boss (as He is indeed) and knowing in our hearts that He is good in countless ways. He loves us, and we want to love Him more and more.

Loving others means welcoming everyone with humility. No one is better than anyone else in God's eyes. He made us all and He loves us, and in turn we want to love others as He has loved us. This means being kind and accepting of others. It means growing in wisdom, but not being judgmental, and it also includes knowing how to help others grow in their love and reverence of God. We, by His grace, are disciples (followers) of Jesus, and we want to help make many spiritual generations of disciples who love God and love others. May God bless you and your family as you seek to love and serve Him!

The Great Commandment

"'Thou shalt love the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul and all your mind,' This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, 'Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.' On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets."

These two commandments, Christ summarized as being the essence of all the commandments. These two, together, have commonly been referred to as "the Great Commandent" to Love God and others.

This is the essence of what we are about and what we strive to attain at Mariners' Church of Detroit.
